Conservancy Zone

The Conservancy Zone covers 350 acres and has over seven miles of trails including a one-mile trail along the Fox River with approximately 2,000 feet of barrier-free boardwalk. The hiking trails along the River have benches with wonderful views to enjoy as you rest. Dogs or pets are not allowed on the trails, in the picnic area, or in the Nature Center building unless it is a service dog. The City of Kaukauna has several other parks and trails that are dog-friendly.

Accessibility & Parking

The 1000 Islands Center building and boardwalk are wheelchair and stroller accessible. Service animals are welcome. A wheelchair and walker are available on-site to use if needed. Ample parking is available and is free.

Our staff has been trained to support and offer hospitality to those with memory loss, cognitive decline or other symptoms associated with dementia.


Nature Center Building
The Nature Center is only available to rent for company/organization meetings when the building is not being used by 1000 Islands for a field trip or event. (Note: As of January 2023 we are no longer renting the Nature Center building for any type of party such as Birthday, Anniversary, Bridal/Baby Shower, etc. The Community Room at the Kaukauna Recreation Dept. can be rented.) A full-sized kitchen, including a stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and serving window is part of the rental. Eight banquet tables (8’ in length) and chairs are always set up for use when renting. The maximum capacity in the building is 150 people. 1000 Islands Pavilion

The 1000 Islands Pavilion is located in the picnic area next to the Fox River and can be rented from May through September. This is an open-air shelter with a concrete slab and approximately 750 sq. ft. A number of picnic tables are available for use and renters can bring in additional tables and chairs. The Pavilion is a separate rental from the Building rental and bathrooms in 1000 Islands are not available when the building is closed. Restrooms are available in the adjacent baseball field area. Photo Policy

Photographers of all skill levels frequent 1000 Islands each season of the year to capture nature’s beauty. A permit or fee is not required for photographers who schedule photo sessions at 1000 Islands. We do ask that 1000 Islands’ guidelines and rules are followed during a photo session. Although we do not require a fee, donations are always welcome.
