On Friday, November 1st, 2024, Phase 1 of the 1000 Islands Boardwalk Trail Reconstruction Project commenced, resulting in the closure of three sections of the boardwalk. The section along the river, marked in red, is closed until further notice. Contractors will be mobilizing supplies and equipment to the site. Once all necessary materials are on site, they will begin reconstructing the trail sections in Phase 1. This process includes removing old trail sections and clearing any trees or brush obstructing the new trail layout.
Phase 1 of the project is expected to be completed by mid-January, with work progressing from east to west.
During this time, while the red sections (Phase 1) of the trails are closed, the black section (Phase 2) of the boardwalk trail will remain accessible, along with the fishing pier and other waterfront spots near the 1000 Islands Environmental Center building.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous funding sources, whose invaluable support, along with funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, has made the 1000 Islands Boardwalk Trail Reconstruction Project possible. Your contributions have been instrumental in advancing this initiative, and we deeply appreciate your commitment to enhancing our community’s natural spaces.
