This is the amount of cigarette butts we picked up from our parking lot and picnic area in approximately one year’s time. Please realize that the Conservancy Zone (all trails), our picnic area (including pavilion) and sitting areas around our building are all no-smoking areas.
Cigarette butts are the most abundant form of plastic waste in the world and they are harmful. Butts are made of plastic material and contain hundreds of toxic chemicals. Toxins include arsenic, lead and nicotine which leach into our natural systems–land and waterways.
Please, no smoking at 1000 Islands!
Be responsible and dispose of your cigarette butts in a trash bin.
