Summer Public Programs, Clinics and Camps

1000 Islands is offering a variety of summer programs, clinics and camps for children age 3 and older. Following is a summary of what we will be offering.

1000 Little Wonders for ages 3 – 5 with an adult/guardian. Dates offered: June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30, August 6 and August 20 from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM. Each class starts with reading an age appropriate nature themed storybook and then a short hike around the Conservancy grounds. Space is limited for each class and pre-registration is required. Free.

Conservancy Crusaders for ages 6 – 10. Dates offered: June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30, August 6 and August 20 from 10:45 AM – 11:45 AM. Each class starts with reading an age appropriate nature themed book and then a hike around the Conservancy grounds. Space is limited for each class and pre-registration is required. Free.

Crayfish Craze! Community Crayfish Hunt for all ages. Dates and times offered: June 8 at 9:30 AM, June 25 at 9:30 AM, July 8 at 9:30 AM, July 20 at 12:30 PM, August 4 at 12:30 PM and August 19 at 9:30 AM. Join staff for an exciting adventure in the Konkapot Creek catching crayfish and other aquatic critters. Wear water shoes. Limited nets and buckets available. Free.

Birdhouse Building Clinic for all ages. June 10 at 10:00 AM. Put together a wooden birdhouse using pre-cut wood pieces in this building clinic. All wood pieces and nails will be provided. This is an on-site building clinic and we encourage everyone to stay on-site to build the birdhouse. Once your birdhouse is built, take it home and decorate it or hang it up as it is in your yard. We have limited hammers, so please bring one if possible. Space is limited and registration is required. Suggested donation of $5.00/kit.

Bird Feeder Building Clinic for all ages. July 20 at 10:00 AM. Put together a wooden bird feeder using pre-cut wood pieces in this building clinic. All wood pieces and nails will be provided. This is an on-site building clinic and we encourage everyone to stay on-site to build the bird feeder. OWe have limited hammers, so please bring one if possible. Space is limited and registration is required. Suggested donation of $5.00/kit.

Beginner Wilderness Survival Camp for ages 8 – 12. July 13 and July 15 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Activities include shelter building, fire building, finding water, and methods of finding food. The entire program is outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing, bring sunscreen and bug spray. Bring water bottle and bagged lunch. Class size is limited and registration is required. Cost is $15.00 per child for both days.

Intermediate Wilderness Survival Camp for ages 8 – 12. August 10 and August 12 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Each day will present a new scenario requiring some critical thinking, group cooperation, and survival skill demonstration. The entire program is outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing, bring sunscreen and bug spray. Bring water bottle and bagged lunch. Class size is limited and registration is required. Cost is $15.00 per child for both days.

River Wonders Explorers Camp for ages 8 – 12 on August 3 and August 5 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Explore the wonders of both the Konkapot Creek and the Fox River. We will also explore a few islands surrounding the River in a true National Geographic Explorers manner! Please wear appropriate clothing and water shoes, bring sunscreen and bug spray. Also bring a water bottle and bagged lunch. Class size is limited and registration is required. Cost is $15.00 per child for both days.

Basics of Bees – July 28 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon for ages 6 – 10.
Fairy Walk – August 23 from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
