In 2021, 1000 Islands worked with Madison Audubon for the first time to bring the Bald Eagle Nest Watch citizen science program to the Fox Valley area. What a great season it was throughout the state with 100 nests observed and 87 of them successfully fledging eaglets. We observed at least 146 fledglings with the possibility of more that we just didn’t confirm.
We have now opened up registration for any volunteers interested in joining the project for the 2022 nesting season. Although 1000 Islands coordinates monitoring efforts for the Fox Valley area, there are nest watch opportunities around Southern and Central Wisconsin as well.
Visit the Madison Audubon website to learn more about the project and to fill out a volunteer interest form. There is nothing like watching our Nation’s symbol successfully raise their young surrounded by the beauty of Wisconsin.
