December 1, 2020 brings #GivingTuesday and an opportunity for people all over the world to give back to their communities. Starting in 2012, Giving Tuesday has been celebrated annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. With most people in the throes of the holiday hustle and bustle, it is important to take a step back and think about how you impact your community. Here in the Fox Valley, we are blessed with many organizations that improve our area and those that live within in it, in many different ways.
We hope that you will remember these organizations for Giving Tuesday this year and focus on those that connect with your values and priorities by making a donation. At 1000 Islands, we have several ways for you to donate:
- Donate your time – We are always looking for volunteers to help with projects in and around the nature center including working with our live animals, property maintenance and education. Fill out a volunteer application as the first step to donating some of your time to our cause.
- Support our Friends – 1000 Islands is supported by The Friends of 1000 Islands. Become a member of the Friends group and be active in the planning and/or facilitating of their special events during the year.
- Make a monetary donation – No amount of money donated is too small. Your monetary donations help support our operating budget, free public programming and environmental conservation.
In celebration of this year’s Giving Tuesday, we encourage visitor’s to stop down and enjoy a walk on the trails. Bring your binoculars and keep an eye out for eagles along the river. After your walk, stop by the front entrance of the nature center and choose how you would like to give.
A donation station will be set up at the front entrance where you can fill out a volunteer application, complete a Friends membership application or make a monetary donation. As a thank you for your commitment to give, all donors can take a Pinecone Bird Feeder Kit home so that your Giving Tuesday contribution will continue to have impact by supporting the birds in your backyard as well.
We thank you for your support!
