February 11, 2023 Update: We are still collecting Holiday String Lights for recycling. A bin is by our front entrance for convenient drop off anytime.
Do you have string lights that you don’t want any longer or are not working? Throwing string lights in your trash to be hauled off to a landfill isn’t the correct thing to do and putting them in your curbside recycling bin isn’t acceptable either.
The Friends of 1000 Islands Environmental Center can help you recycle those lights. They are currently collecting and recycling unwanted and/or broken Christmas string light strands. Christmas lights are made up of valuable materials that can be recycled and reclaimed such as copper, glass, and plastic. So far, the Friends recycling program has kept over 5,600 pounds of string lights out of landfills.
So, when your Christmas lights come down after the holidays and they break or stop working, please do the right thing and recycle them. Lights can be dropped off at 1000 Islands Environmental Center any time at your convenience and they will be recycled properly—FREE of charge. A bin is located on the bench by the main entrance door; easy and no-contact drop off.
1000 Islands Environmental Center is located at 1000 Beaulieu Ct., Kaukauna, WI. Please call 920-766-4733 with any questions. Thanks for recycling!
